5 Sneaker Care Tips to Keep Your Kicks Looking Fresh

A pair that's verified authentic and carefully packed still needs a little upkeep to stay looking new. None of this takes more than a few minutes, and it makes a real difference over the life of a pair.

1. Let them air out before storing

Don't box up a pair straight from wearing them. Let them sit out for a few hours so any moisture from the day can evaporate before they go back in the box — trapped moisture is what causes odor and breaks down foam midsoles faster.

2. Wipe down after every wear

A soft cloth and a quick wipe-down after each wear keeps dirt from working its way into the material, which is much easier than a deep clean later. For suede or nubuck, use a dedicated suede brush instead of a wet cloth.

3. Use shoe trees or stuff them for storage

Cedar shoe trees (or just balled-up paper if you don't have them) help the shoe hold its shape and absorb residual moisture between wears. This matters most for leather pairs, which can crease permanently if stored flat and empty for long stretches.

4. Rotate your pairs

Wearing the same pair every day accelerates midsole compression and outsole wear. Rotating between two or three pairs gives the foam time to decompress between wears, which noticeably extends cushioning life.

5. Keep them out of direct sunlight and extreme heat

UV exposure yellows white midsoles over time, and heat (like a hot car trunk) can soften glue and warp foam. Store pairs somewhere cool, dry, and out of direct sun — a closet beats a garage.
